Anil Keshary Shah is a prominent figure in Nepal, recognized for his extensive career in the banking sector and his current focus on leadership development.
Born on November 11, 1957, in Kathmandu, Nepal, Anil Keshary Shah holds an MBA degree from the Faculty of Management Studies, India. He also pursued studies at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and the George Washington University in the United States.
His banking career spans over three decades, beginning in 1991 at Grindlays Bank (later Standard Chartered Bank, Nepal). He spent 13 years there, progressing to roles such as Head of Consumer Banking and Chief Operating Officer. In 2004, he joined Nabil Bank as General Manager and became its CEO in 2005. In 2009, he took on the role of CEO at Mega Bank, where he served for eight years. He returned to Nabil Bank as CEO in 2018, a position he held until his retirement from active banking.
Following his banking career, Shah established Lead Nepal Inc., where he serves as Chairperson. This venture focuses on leadership development, with a mission to help Nepali youth become better leaders across various sectors, including the private sector, education, and even political parties. His approach to leadership development is described by a “50:50 formula,” where he charges for training private organizations and dedicates an equal amount of time to providing pro bono training to youth organizations or government colleges that may not be able to afford his services.
Anil Keshary Shah is also known as a public speaker and influencer, sharing insights on leadership and economic development. He is a former member of the Nepal Investment Board, the Nepal-USA Chamber of Commerce and Industry, All Nepal Football Association, Lincoln School, and the Nepal Banker’s Association. He has received awards such as the “Top CEO” in 2005, 2006, and 2007 by The Boss Business Excellence Awards. In June 2023, he joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and was given the responsibility of head of the training department.
