Cabinet Shrestha is a prominent Nepali entrepreneur and business leader, widely known as the Managing Director of Agni Group, a diversified conglomerate with a strong presence in Nepal’s automotive sector. He is also recognized for his contributions to the broader business community and his role as an honorary consul.

Born in Lalitpur in 1965 into a politically influenced family (his father was a cabinet minister, which inspired his unique first name), Shrestha received his schooling from Mount Hermon and completed his high school from St. Joseph College in Darjeeling. Initially, he pursued science with an aim to become a doctor, but his path eventually led him to business.

Shrestha began his entrepreneurial journey in 1990 with an IT company called Himalayan Business System. His interest in automobiles led him to accept the distributorship for Mahindra vehicles in Nepal, marking the beginning of Agni Group. Under his leadership, Agni Group has grown significantly and now encompasses eight entities with a presence in over 65 locations across Nepal. The group is the authorized sole distributor for Mahindra & Mahindra vehicles in Nepal, including their utility vehicles, passenger vehicles, and tractors. Agni Group has also diversified into:

  • Electric Vehicles (EVs): Shrestha has been a pioneer in introducing electric vehicles to Nepal, demonstrating his commitment to environmental sustainability.
  • Two-wheelers: Through Agni Moto Inc., they also distribute Jawa motorcycles.
  • Heavy Equipment: Including brands like XCMG and SUNWARD.
  • Industrial Products: Such as Maximile Oils, M-Star, Powerol, Milwaukee, and Black Max.
  • Cinema: Through Regal Cinemas.

Beyond his direct business interests, Cabinet Shrestha is actively involved in various organizations:

  • Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Kathmandu: A diplomatic role reflecting his standing and connections.
  • Board Member of Global IME Bank: One of Nepal’s largest commercial banks.
  • Vice President of Nepal Equestrian Association: Highlighting his diverse interests.
  • Former Vice President of Nepal Wushu Association, Nepal Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), and Jawalakhel Youth Club.
  • Member of the Nepal Automobiles Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA), a newly established body aimed at uniting leading automotive importers and manufacturers in Nepal.

Cabinet Shrestha is known for his dedication, hard work, and willingness to adapt to changing times and embrace new ventures. He believes in self-improvement and constantly striving to better himself, which he attributes to his success. He is also committed to corporate social responsibility, notably by introducing electric vehicles to promote environmental preservation in Nepal.
