Nabil Bank Appoints Manoj Gyawali as New CEO

Nabil Bank CEO

Nabil Bank has officially appointed Manoj Gyawali as its new Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ), solidifying a transition that saw him serving as acting CEO for several months. His permanent appointment brings stability to the leadership of one of Nepal’s largest commercial banks.

Gyawali’s interim leadership began in March, following the resignation of former CEO Gyanendra Dhungana. Dhungana had stepped down from his position at Nabil Bank with the aspiration of becoming the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, the nation’s central bank. However, the government ultimately appointed economist Biswonath Poudel to the coveted central bank governorship on May 20, bringing a conclusion to that particular executive pursuit.

The decision to elevate Gyawali to the CEO position was made during a crucial meeting of Nabil Bank’s Board of Directors. The bank confirmed the promotion was finalized on Thursday, June 5. This swift decision underscores the board’s confidence in Gyawali’s capabilities and his performance during his acting tenure.

Gyawali is a Chartered Accountant by profession, a qualification that underpins his deep understanding of financial operations and governance. His career spans over two decades in the banking sector, providing him with a wealth of experience across various aspects of financial management, strategic planning, and market dynamics. This extensive background is expected to be a significant asset as Nabil Bank navigates the competitive financial landscape.

Nabil Bank holds a prominent position within Nepal’s financial industry as one of the country’s largest commercial banks. Its principal promoter is a company owned by Binod Chaudhary, a highly influential figure in Nepal, recognized both as a prominent businessman and a lawmaker representing the Nepali Congress. This strong backing, combined with Gyawali’s seasoned leadership, positions Nabil Bank for continued growth and stability in the coming years.
